Episode 2 ended with one of the biggest turning points so far. Öykü ran away from Demir, and when she suddenly stepped into the road, Demir jumped in front of a car to save her. The car hit them both. Now, father and daughter are in the hospital. And for the first time, Demir has put his own life at risk to protect Öykü. But does that mean he is finally ready to become her father? Not quite.

Demir and Öykü Survive the Accident

After the accident, Demir and Öykü are taken to the hospital. Thankfully, they survive. Candan rushes to the hospital after hearing what happened and is deeply worried about both of them. She insists that Demir and Öykü come back to her home after they are discharged.

For Candan, this is becoming much more than simply helping a little girl in trouble. She is beginning to feel responsible for Öykü. And perhaps without realizing it, she is also becoming emotionally attached to Demir and Öykü as a pair. But Demir has other plans.

Demir Still Wants to Get Away

You might think that risking his life to save Öykü would completely change Demir. After all, he jumped in front of a moving car for her. Surely that means he has finally accepted her as his daughter? Well… not yet. Demir still wants to get away from the responsibility of raising Öykü. Even after everything that happened, he is thinking about how he can return to his old life.

This is one of the most interesting contradictions in his character. His actions sometimes say something completely different from his words. He says he doesn’t want Öykü. But when she is in danger, he instinctively protects her. He says she is a burden. But he puts himself in danger for her. Maybe Demir is already becoming a father before he realizes it himself.

Candan Wants Them Back at Her House

Candan insists that Demir and Öykü return to her home. For Öykü, this is comforting. She has been abandoned by her aunt, rejected by her father and thrown into a completely unfamiliar life. Candan gives her something she desperately needs: a safe place to belong.

Candan is also becoming accustomed to having Öykü around. And she is beginning to accept Demir’s presence as well. The three of them are slowly starting to resemble something that looks almost like a family. Almost. Because Demir is still hiding the truth about who he really is.

Uğur Comes Up With Another Plan

While Candan is trying to help Demir and Öykü, Uğur has not forgotten about the paintings. The pressure to get the paintings is becoming increasingly intense. Uğur comes to Demir with another idea. This time, the plan involves replacing one of Candan’s paintings with a fake. It is risky. Very risky.

Demir hesitates. For perhaps the first time, he seems to understand that this isn’t just about money anymore. Candan trusts him. Öykü is living with him. And yet he is still considering betraying the people who are beginning to care about him. That conflict becomes increasingly important.

Öykü Has a Secret

But while the adults are busy with their own problems, something much more serious is happening to Öykü. Öykü is hiding a secret. And she doesn’t want anyone to know. She has started experiencing changes that frighten her. Most importantly, she begins having trouble remembering things.

At one point, she struggles to remember something she should know. For a child who is normally extremely intelligent and perceptive, this is frightening. And Öykü knows that something is wrong. But she doesn’t tell Demir. She doesn’t tell Candan. She tries to hide it from everyone.

Why Is Öykü Hiding It?

This part of the story broke my heart. Öykü has already experienced so much uncertainty. Her aunt abandoned her. Her father initially rejected her. She has finally found people she wants to stay with. And now she is afraid that if they discover something is wrong with her, they might leave her too.

So instead of asking for help, she tries to pretend everything is fine. She watches herself carefully. She worries about forgetting things. And she tries desperately to keep her secret. This is such an important part of Öykü’s character. She is only eight years old, but she is already trying to protect the adults around her from her own problems.

Candan Begins to Feel Like Family

Meanwhile, Candan’s relationship with Öykü continues to grow. Candan doesn’t know the truth about Demir’s criminal activities. She sees him very differently from the way the audience does. To Candan, Demir is simply Öykü’s father. And she is becoming increasingly comfortable having both of them around.

This creates an interesting situation. The audience knows something Candan doesn’t. We know Demir has been trying to deceive her. We know Uğur is still pushing him toward the painting scheme. And we know Öykü is hiding something. Candan, however, is simply opening her heart to these two people. That makes her trust in them both touching — and a little dangerous.

Candan’s Past Comes Back

Candan is also dealing with her own past. Her former acquaintance Murat becomes involved, and he has concerns about Demir. He has investigated Demir and begins telling Candan things she doesn’t know about him. This creates another problem for Demir. He is already struggling to keep his criminal past hidden. Now someone is beginning to expose him. And Candan may soon discover that the man she has welcomed into her home is not the man she thinks he is.

A Different Side of Demir

One of the things I noticed in Episode 3 is that Demir’s character is becoming more complicated. He is still selfish. He still wants money. He still considers abandoning Öykü. But his behavior toward her is changing. When Öykü is in danger, he reacts without thinking. When she needs something, he notices. And when someone threatens her, we begin to see a protective side of him.

Maybe this is the beginning of his transformation. Or maybe he’s simply not ready to admit what he already feels.

My Japanese Perspective

As a Japanese woman married to a Turkish man, I find Demir particularly interesting. I have often felt that Turkish people tend to be remarkably warm and tolerant toward children. So when I see Demir trying to push Öykü away, part of me wants to say: “Come on, Demir. She’s a child. Be kind to her!”

But I also keep reminding myself that Demir is not an ordinary example of a Turkish father. He grew up without a normal family. He has spent his life looking after himself. And then, completely unexpectedly, a little girl appears and tells him she is his daughter. That’s enough to make anyone panic. And perhaps that’s why the moments when he instinctively protects Öykü are so meaningful. He may not know how to be a father yet. But his instincts are beginning to act like one.

The Humor Keeps the Story Light

Even with all this emotional tension, Kızım still manages to make us laugh. Demir and Uğur continue to have their chaotic moments, and the contrast between their criminal schemes and the everyday problems of looking after a child creates some genuinely funny situations.

This is one of the reasons I recommend this drama so much. It isn’t just sadness after sadness. You get: family drama + comedy + romance + mystery + emotional moments all mixed together. And just when you think you’ve figured out where the story is going, something unexpected happens.

Episode 3 Is Where the Story Changes

The first two episodes were largely about Öykü finding her father. Episode 3 starts changing the question. It’s no longer simply: “Will Demir accept Öykü?” Now we’re starting to wonder: “What will happen when Demir realizes that he can’t imagine life without her?” At the same time: “What is happening to Öykü?” And: “What will happen when Candan discovers who Demir really is?”

The three characters are becoming connected in ways none of them fully understands yet. And that’s when Kızım really starts to pull you in.

Would I keep watching? Absolutely. Episode 3 gives us something very important: a glimpse of the father Demir could eventually become. He doesn’t know it yet. But the man who once wanted to get rid of Öykü is beginning to protect her without even thinking. And meanwhile, Öykü is carrying a secret that could change everything.

What Happens Next?

Demir, Öykü and Candan are becoming closer. But their relationship is built on secrets. Demir is hiding his criminal past. Öykü is hiding something about her health. And Candan is beginning to investigate the man she has started trusting. Sooner or later, these secrets are going to collide. And when they do, none of them will be able to go back to the way things were.
